nnovation Portal is a new instrument from MCT that stimulates the constitution of strategic alliances and the development of cooperative projects involving national organizations and ICTIs. The Portal allows organizations and the technical-scientific community to meet each other and interact in a virtual environment. Through the Portal, professionals encounter partnership opportunities to develop projects, while organizations encounter competency and locate knowledge that used to be restricted to universities and technological institutes.

The new Portal shall help Brazil with the promotion of sustainable development and with the propagation of competitive technologies in the international market. This goal will be reached with the cooperation between businessmen, professionals and research groups. To do this, the Innovation Portal relies on a creative search mechanism which enables finding the knowledge of a specialist and technology developed from a competitive organization. Professionals, for instance, can locate organizations from a specific region, state, with a specific number of employees or a specific annual income (= rendimento / e faturamento?) and get in touch with the organization through the Portal (it is not necessary to search for phones and e-mails). Organizations can search for specialists and research groups that operate in universities and technological institutes and send a cooperation proposal.

The Innovation Portal exists because of Brazil’s need to establish a direct cooperation instrument between the scientific and technological community and the country’s corporate sector. This need was emphasized when the Innovation Law was regulated on October 11, 2006. The Portal is based on experiences and on the main national resources of scientific and technological information. The Brazilian’s Science and Technology Ministry (Ministério da Ciência e Tecnologia - MCT) is responsible for this initiative, and had the cooperation of the Strategic Studies and Management Center (Centro de Gestão e Estudos Estratégicos - CGEE) and Stela Institute (Instituto Stela) (developer of Plataforma Lattes). MCT also had the collaboration of innovation consultants and the support of CNPq, FINEP, ANPEI, ABDI, SEBRAE, CNI, IEL, INMETRO and the Graduate Pro-dean Forum (???).
