Instituto Stela is meant to operate as a link between university and companies. And as its origin is academic, the institution has the right tools and the knowledge to accomplish that approximation. In order to fulfill this mission, one of the tasks of researchers is to collect demands for products and services from both public and private sectors. Once demands have been identified, their next task is to propose innovative solutions to meet these demands. Through this, it is possible to combine basic and applied knowledge, in the academic and technological sectors, and make this knowledge useful for society. Stela Institute researchers keep close connections with academia. Its senior doctors are faculty members of the Graduate Program in Knowledge Engineering and Management at the Federal University of Santa Catarina– UFSC.

Other collaborators are also attached to academia either through graduate or undergraduate programs. In addition, the Institute keeps a trainee program for students of higher education institutions of Santa Catarina (including UFSC, Univali, Barddal, and Unisul). At the international level, the Institute has cooperation ties with British, French, Dutch, American, and Portuguese institutions.
